Hong Kong Airlines will launch a scheduled passenger service between Hong Kong and Moscow, the capital and the most flourishing city of Russia, in June this year. The inauguration of this new long-haul route is a major milestone of the airline's aggressive expansion plan.

Hong Kong Airlines and OnAir agreement to install full Mobile OnAir and Internet OnAir inflight passenger communications services on their new fleet of twin-aisle Airbus A330 aircraft four A330-200 and six A330-300. In April, there was continued improvement in passenger traffic in domestic and regional routes. Domestic passenger traffic continued to record year-over-year growth. Regional routes also fared better with double-digit growth measured on a year-over-year and a month-over-month basis. International routes saw a mild growth compared with last month but the rate of year-over-year drop was higher than that of last month. The cargo operation only saw year-over-year growth in domestic market. There was no improvement seen in international and regional markets.

FRANCE : BOC Aviation has entered into a purchase and leaseback transaction with Air France for two Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft and two 777-200LR freighter aircraft. CHINA : Harbin Embraer Aircraft Industry Company, Ltd. (HEAI) has reached an agreement with Hainan Airline Company, Ltd. (HNA) to amend the existing contract signed on 31-Aug-06, readjusting the original firm order of 50 ERJ 145 jets to the new figure of 25 aircraft.

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) managed a total of 3.9 million passengers and 268,000 tonnes of cargo in March 2009, representing decreases of 7.9% and 19.8% respectively from the corresponding month in 2008.

Cathay Pacific Airways announced (17-Apr-09) a series of measures that will help it deal with a drop in business resulting from the current economic downturn. In response to deteriorating business conditions, the airline will reduce passenger capacity by 8% and overall cargo capacity by 11% from May. At the same time, in a further effort to reduce cash spend, the airline will introduce a four-tier, top down Special Leave Scheme under which staff will be asked to take unpaid leave varying from one to four weeks according to their seniority.

CHINA : (CAPA) Air China and Asiana Airlines signed an expanded codeshare agreement, effective 01-Feb-07, covering nine more routes (in addition to Beijing-Busan and Hangzhou-Incheon) and 151 weekly frequencies. New destinations covered by the agreement include Beijing, Qingdao, Weihai, Tianjin, Dalian, Yanji, Chengdu, Chongqing, and Hangzhou. The airlines eventually plan to cooperate on all China-Korea services.
